Though a typical “Pueblo Blanco”, Competa has seen an influx of foreign tourists and new residents over the last few years, eager to experienced its vibrant cultural and social life that this village offers with an abundance of festivals (“ferias”) throughout the year, particularly during the Summer months. There are many restaurants and bars spread throughout the village, reachable by foot.
About an hour’s drive East of Malaga, Competa is set in the middle of a national park, surrounded by open countryside and neighbouring white villages.
It is approximately 18km (30 minutes drive) from the coast and has an elevation of 638 metres above sea level.
The bustling coastal resorts of Torre Del Mar and Nerja are both within easy reach by bus/car. Further afield the are the cities of Malaga and Granada.
